Collection of bastard tunes

When Karsten Pflum started making music about 12 years ago, he was using the moniker Slaphead Faun, but when his first releases were hitting the shelves in 2002 he discarded the name again. Since 2002 Pflum has released three albums, but now Slaphead Faun is back, although this time as the name of an album.

This album is a collection of bastard tunes produced between 2002 and 2007; they are the unreleased offspring of previous albums and EPs - the tunes that never made it on to the releases. There is a certain classic feel to the tracks, like they were in some way a yet unreleased collection of favourites.

Pflum's early works are very experimental with beautiful melodies, elaborated beats and unconventional ideas. Tricky and clever tunes that are catchy yet border seeking, and the tracks Tak 1 and Tak One are representatives of this period. During his career, Pflum's productions gradually became more edgy, the melodies more subtle and the drum programming more equilibristic. Tracks like Pan BD Spiree and Six Step Chase shows how the music brings sound design into the mix, adding an extra layer of glitchy and quirky textures.

The album Slaphead Faun shows the whole Karsten Pflum spectre of sound - from the harsh and aggressive Thael Spir to the softer and almost magical Computer Weekend. It reveals different approaches to composition techniques and arrangement - Byrd or Fy Darkspedter are straight forward going, while tracks like Jazzkroge III or Make Rite are gradually morphing in new mysterious directions.

Slaphead Faun offers poppy melodic lines, psyched drill n' bass, old-school IDM and experimental electronica. It is a timeless dish of old and new tunes, a dish that altogether adds a new flavour to your ears. Poignant and seductive, like shadows manifistating in the dark.

BJØRN SVIN

Bjørn Svin is a live performer and producer of
experimental electronic dancemusic.
He started making music in 1992, and released his first record in 1995.
Since then he has produced several albums and 12”s, as well as music for
films and theater.
In the late nineties he became a "techno pop-star" with the hit “Mer
Strøm 2”, and reached cult-status in most of Scandinavia.
Through his charismatic live-performances, he has become known
as a very passionate man with a physical connection to his own beats and
loops.
This is also seen in his strictly analogue approach to music making and
perfoming, where he always prefers hardware to computers.
Bjørns music can be described as a kind of rave-hip
hop-fusion-techno-jazz with a positive energy connected through
repetitive but still quite complex beats.
What sums up Bjørns work is a personal energy rather than a certain
style and some would claim that his music belongs in the electronica
category, rather than being plain dance techno.
Bjørn has collaborated with lots of different people: Cristian
Vogel, Jacob Kirkegaard, Karsten Pflum, Jonas Olesen, Copyflex, Else
Marie Pade, Håkan Lidbo, Christian Bloch, Dj Valyum, Carion (classical
woodwind quintet) and Das Beckwerk.

KARSTEN PFLUM

Karsten Pflum is a danish producer,
currently based in Berlin. His music varies in style, but lies somewhere
between IDM, dubstep, and electronica. His latest release, Slaphead
Faun, is a collection of old classic tunes, gathered from 2002 to 2007.
Sweet melodic themes with elaborated beats and unconventional ideas go
together, and take the listener on a path of mental rave.
With three full releases and a bunch of EPs in his bag, Karsten Pflum pays a
tribute to the glorious times of IDM, without loosing the focus on the
future of the genre.
His liveshows have been rocking around
Europe for a good number of years, and his tunes have been played on a
diverse number of radio programs – among these by Mary Ann Hobbs, Carl
Hyde of Underworld and the by the late John Peel.

THE EBERT BROTHERS

The EbertBrothers are Axel and Michael Ebert, an artist
duo living and working in Berlin. They started to collaborate in 2006, first creating
video art pieces, then moving more and more towards music production,
accompanied by their own visuals.Their performances can currently be
experienced in clubs and galleries in Berlin.
On stage the Eberbrothers perform with an ever evolving set of
synths, drummachines and software, creating soundscapes that shift between
noise, melancholy, mangled beats and wide spaces. The intense
musical collage is accompanied by visuals that attempt to break out
from the traditional VJ-style offerings.
